Description:

The 2018 Appalachian Clean Energy CLE workshop will provide attorneys and other attendees with knowledge on issues related to clean energy facing North Carolina. This workshop will cover the following topics:

  • A large part of the workshop will focus on HB 589 (S.L. 2017-192), also known as the Competitive Energy Solutions for NC law, which establishes comprehensive renewable energy policy in North Carolina. This section will include changes in the state’s implementation of PURPA, community solar, solar leasing, and new clean energy initiatives being rolled out by the utilities.
  • NC Electric Membership Corporation perspective on project development and regulatory updates including recent actions by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and the North Carolina Utilities Commission (NCUC).
  • Utility ratemaking process and related issues considered by the Utilities Commission.
  • Legal aspects of financing energy efficiency and renewable energy systems including Property Assessed Capital Expenditures (PACE) financing, Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Portfolio Standard (REPS), and financing options for building performance measures and energy storage.

Attendees will have the opportunity to network with professionals who can serve as resources and provide future assistance with particular legal and regulatory project development questions as they arise.

Note: This course will count for the required CLE that is needed prior to taking the Utilities Law specialization exam.
